Moldova is now part of the European patent system

On 1 June 2026, Moldova officially became a member of the European Patent Organisation (EPO) as its 40th member state.

For businesses and inventors, this means that European patent applications filed after 1 June 2026 will automatically designate Moldova. This expands the potential geographical coverage and makes it even more attractive to protect innovation through the European system.
The accession builds on many years of cooperation with the EPO and marks another step in the evolution of the European patent system.
